Episode 11. Behavioral and Leadership Principles. Day 11. Bar raiser day. Stories score here. Key facts. Amazon interviews score Leadership Principles with STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Situation in two or three sentences. Task starts with: I owned. Action is the longest part. Result must be quantified: accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z. Always close with what you changed so it would not recur. Say: The prevention is the score. Principles you must cover. Customer Obsession. Ownership. Bias for Action. Dive Deep. Insist on Highest Standards. Learn and Be Curious. Say one principle name per story, out loud, so the interviewer can map it. Scenario 1. Tell me about a time you resolved a critical production database outage. Understand. Ask: how deep should I go, and which principle should I anchor? Then run. Prepare. Say the data you had: alerts, dashboards, logs, customer impact window. Say your translation line: At Oracle we follow the Diagnostic Methodology, and I owned the cause determination end to end. Identify. Tell the story. Situation: the outage and its blast radius. Task: I owned recovery and communication. Action: the three moves you made, in order, with the tradeoff of each. Result: recovered in N minutes, as measured by error rate and latency, by doing the failover plus pool correction. Close with the prevention: the runbook and alarm you added. Support. Name the follow ups you set: the game day, the dashboard, the ownership change. Scenario 2. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a design decision. Anchor on Have Backbone, Disagree and Commit. Show the data you brought, the disagreement stated plainly, and the full commit once decided. Say: I disagreed, I committed, and here is what I did to make it succeed. Your Day 11 lab: write three stories, one outage, one disagreement, one mentorship. Time each to three minutes. Say the principle name in the first sentence. Tomorrow, Episode 12: repetition. The final pass. Everything in one sitting. Understand. Prepare. Identify. Support. Say it with me.
